Protecting Turtle Hatchlings

Protecting Turtle Hatchlings

Over the last two years, we've been working with the Blue Marine Foundation to protect turtle hatchlings in the Dutch Caribbean and Ascension Islands. To date, our funding has supported ranger programs that have helped to give up to 2 million turtles a fighting chance.*

Only 1% of hatchlings in the Dutch Carribean live to adulthood due to human impacts including ocean pollution and beach distubance.

Through our 2% to the Wild Pledge and Turtle Conservation designs, we’re able to help protect hatchlings as they take their first flip flop steps to the ocean, giving them the very best shot at reaching adulthood. From moving endangered nests, to preserving beaches and guiding the baby turtles through the early stages of life, the funds raised will help to secure the future of this beautiful keystone species.

“Turtles play an incredibly important role in the underwater world; from providing key habitats for other threatened marine life to balancing the nutrients of the delicate beach ecosystem and sustaining the food web. I’m so excited that with your help, we’ll be able to do our own special bit for this species.”

Blue Marine’s mission is to see 30% of the world’s ocean under effective protection by 2030. They are dedicated to creating marine reserves, restoring vital habitats and establishing models of sustainable fishing. *Each year, Elizabeth Scarlett commits a minimum of £42,000 to fund turtle conservation projects in Ascension and the Dutch Caribbean. This works out as £2.10 from the sale of each item. The commitment includes funding for five turtle rangers during nesting seasons, as well as for signage and education in the local communities. These teams help protect approximately 2,033,043 turtle hatchlings per year.
